Label Lens is developed by Label Lens LLC, based in the United States. This policy explains what the app accesses and how it's used.
Label Lens uses Sign in with Apple to create your account. Depending on what you choose to share with Apple, this may include your name and email address, plus a unique Apple-provided identifier that keeps you signed in. This information is used only to operate your account and is not sold or shared with third parties.
Label Lens uses your camera to scan barcodes. This scanning happens entirely on your device using Apple's built-in scanning technology โ the camera feed itself is never uploaded or stored.
When you scan a barcode, the app sends only the barcode number to Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org) and USDA FoodData Central (fdc.nal.usda.gov), free, third-party grocery databases, to retrieve the product's name and ingredients. No personal information is included in these requests.
If a barcode isn't found in those databases, Label Lens can optionally let you photograph the product's ingredients panel. That photo is sent to our server, which uses Anthropic's Claude AI to transcribe the printed ingredients, and the photo itself is not kept afterward. The transcribed ingredient text is cached on our server, linked only to the anonymous barcode number, so future users scanning the same product don't need to submit a photo. No account or personal information is attached to this data.
Your scan history is stored locally on your device only. We do not have access to your personal scan history.
If you enter dietary preferences during setup, that stays on your device and is used only to personalize the app. It is not sent to us or any third party.
Label Lens offers an optional Pro subscription. All payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details.
If enabled, Label Lens may send a local reminder before your free trial ends. These are generated and delivered entirely on your device.
We do not sell your data or show ads. We share information only as described above: barcode numbers with Open Food Facts and USDA, and ingredient-panel photos with Anthropic solely to transcribe the printed text โ not to build a profile of you or train their models on your data beyond standard API processing.
Most information is stored locally on your device and is removed automatically when you delete the app. To request deletion of anything we hold on our own systems (such as your Sign in with Apple identifier), contact us below; we'll act within thirty (30) days.
Label Lens is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Continued use after changes means you accept the update.
